Whore?

Whore. I absolutely love this word; it is one of the few words that get its point across in no uncertain terms. Immediately, the listener, the speaker, the audience knows just what you are, and what you do. As far as job descriptions goes it is pretty concise and exact. Unlike some of the other words used to describe what I do, escort, call girl, floozy, slut, dollymop, tramp, coquette, flirt, siren, temptress, wench and trollop. Whore is in my opinion the quintessential essence of female power. It breaks all the rules. It sets its own agenda and marches to the beat of its own drummer. It is very liberating.

Why am I a whore? Because it pays damn good! Sorry to burst the bubble on the stereotypical view most of you have about us, you know the one in which the media, aid organizations and most literature portrays us as street walking crack-heads, selling our pussies to the lowest bidder for a quick hit of the pipe? Or, the trafficked non-English speaking foreign woman brought over to work as a sex slave in some sleazy back alley brothel, kept drugged up, used and abused?

Nope, that isn’t me not in the slightest. I am an educated, intelligent independent woman who after much research decided to try this as an alternative to working in the local grocery store. See, at the time I didn’t need to work, I had a nice BF that was supporting me and the then little ones just fine. It was more an issue of not always wanting to rely on him for money, I liked having my own. The ladies sitting behind the counter of the local super market look miserable, brain-dead, unmotivated, unenthusiastic, and bored. The thought of having to face those types of colleagues was not an entertaining one

I could have done something else, such as worked at the school or local shops, but I just felt I would be wasting my time; and to tell the truth I am, if I were to be completely honest, lazy. Not lazy in the sense of not wanting to work at all, more a unmotivation to work the basic boring 9-5 drudge type job. I don’t want to work 40 hours a week for pittance, sorry but that in my opinion isn’t a life, it is slavery, and that was supposedly abolished at least in this part of the world, some time ago. So, I choose to be a whore. Because when I weighed the costs to benefit ratio I realized I could make about the same as someone working in an everyday ordinary job, have free time and not need a man around to support me, which was the main aim of the exercise. I liked calling the shots, I hated compromising and I hated being told what to do by some man who because he is endowed with external genital thinks it is his god given right to tell me what I must and mustn’t do. Not bloody likely.

So for me working is about asserting my own power over my life and making my own choices.

Thats the spirit girl ! ( but I understand that some escorts belive that whooring empowers the man, not the woman ! Can you believe that ??

Now I don’t mind being called a “whore” in the slightest, but, perhaps because I am of a more blunt and basic bent, I always preferred “hooker” (“whore” always suggests the need for far too many corsets and petticoats for my liking – fine for a night out, but not in the workplace 🙂 ).

Y’know something, whatever situation leads you to whoring it is ALWAYS about the cost to benefit ratio in the end isn’t it?

You know, maybe you should have been an Accountant !!! On second thoughts no, at least you have some work now !!

I agree, ‘hooker’ is good. Respectable but probably fun too.!

    • Golly, accounting sounds awfully like real work!

Hooker, whore, harlot, prostitute..only labels. Matters far more what is inside, don’t you think? We hope to change the perceptions some have of us, if they are open to it.

Welcome to storiesfrombehindtheredlight Joe. Many thanks for your positive contributions.

Believe it or not Joe some of the family background is accounting…but I like to think of myself as a conscientious objector on that one 😉

  4. According to Sir Laurence Gardner, in his book “Genesis of the Grail Kings”… “The Scarlet Women were so called because they were a direct source of the priestly Star Fire. They were know in Greek as the hierodulai (sacred women), a word later transformed (via medieval French into English) to ‘harlot’. In the early Germanic tongue, they were known as hores (later Anglicised to ‘whores’) a word which meant quite simply ‘beloved ones’. p 163
Whenever someone calls me a whore, I thank them. I have no problem whatsoever being called a whore.

    You tell them girl!!!

I think we are all whores! We all sell ourselves to make a living.

Escorting is just far more honest wiht no pretences.

    Excellent article! Well done.

Unfortunately though, the word whore has been very stigmatised in modern society, which is a shame as the word whore seemed to have originally meant something sacred and holy in ancient times. Escorting is not for everybody and the women that do it seem to be a rare breed and have very special and unique qualities to them. Its very easy to just label all escorts as victims without even knowing them, but its much much more harder to truly understand the many circumstances that compels them to be escorts in a society where they have very limited rights and suffer from much stigma and discrimination. From a society that does not try hard enough to fully understand why they are sex workers. The blog is a step forward for escorts in Ireland and it will make people more aware of your true stories.

It is abhorrent that the government are under so much pressure from anti-prostitution and human trafficking campaigners to get rid of escorts in Ireland. Trying to get rid of escorts by making one sided media campaigns against escorts and pressuring the government to criminalise their livelihood is nothing but the tactics of cowards and imbeciles that have totally disregarded the voices and lives of you escorts in Ireland.

To attack an easy target such as escorts with an anti-prostitution campaign (inspired by christian and radical feminist bias) that excludes the voices of escorts, is nothing but the tactics of bigoted bible bashing bullies and radical feminist trolls. What gives those bullies the right to speak for you escorts while excluding your views? Just because you escorts are an easy target? oh yes the tactic of a bully!! attack women who are marginalised and find it difficult to speak up, always attack the easy target, just because you can, just because its in fashion.

Just because an anti-prostitition bully campaign is socially in fashion and is more listened to through the media than its intended marginalised targets ( the escorts), does not mean that the bully has the right to try and silence those marginalised escorts with sensationalist ramblings, especially in a democratic society, good heavens, Ireland is supposed to be a democracy. Feedom of speech and all? yes, is it so hard for Ruhama to let you escorts have your say?

Keep telling your stories, its very enlightening to get the escorts side of things rather than the bullies side of things, listening to the one sided ramblings by Ruhama just seems so false and untrue especially when its coming from nuns. Your lives as escorts are far more complex than the anti-prostitution bullies are making it out to be. There is a much bigger and more important story to tell from the escorts themselves. Keep it up women, well done on making your voices heard, because many people get tired of having Ruhama speak for ye all the time. Its much better to actually see your real voices and its truly positive to see so many escorts speaking out. While you are united, you are strong and society will accept you as human beings that need rights.
